In 2015, I was renovating my home and planning a wedding simultaneously. I was on a budget and on a timeline, both of which were conveyed to my contractor, and none of which were kept.

After a needlessly stressful and expensive experience with my own contractor, I had to roll up my sleeves and finish the job on my own. Fortunately, my engineering experience armed me with the skills to do so. Unfortunately, I learned first-hand from the situation just how inflated construction costs are, and just how manipulative the industry can be.
